Children’s mental health game developer Book of Beasties releases its second teacher approved home learning kit to support children, parents and teachers in lockdown. This time collaborating with accomplished play expert and education futurist Yesim Kunter.
Book of Beasties, developer of the award-winning mental wellness games and resources for children, has developed its second curriculum-based home learning kit for parents and teachers to use during the school closure and isolation period. To be released Tuesday 12th May.
The team behind the multi-award winning Book of Beasties: The Mental Wellness Card Game joined up with fully trained U.K teachers, personal trainers, play experts and others to continue its unique brand of classroom and home-learning integrated lesson planning given the Prime Minister's announcement of continued lockdown on the 10th May 2020.
This new kit will combine Literacy, Science and Mathematics, History, Art, Spanish and P.E. to the mental wellness world of Book of Beasties, its characters and activities - with a focus on toys and play to make the most out of keeping children occupied in lockdown.
"It is not easy to design well rounded play opportunities in the context of emotions or mental health and making it relevant for children. But Book of Beasties is structured in way that ensures abstract thinking becomes tangible and actionable."

Given Book of Beasties first home learning kit’s focus on nature through collaboration with Tom Hart Dyke; our second home learning kit will focus on play and toys through collaboration with, play expert and creative strategist, Yesim Kunter, found of Play to Innovate. Yesim (who has twelve years’ experience in companies including Toys R Us, Lego and Hasbro) originally trained as a toy designer and has transformed her focus to defining new play experiences for children.
This ability to create new experiences for child play combined with Book of Beasties established success in the field of children’s mental health guarantees this free resource for parents and teachers to be a ground breaking and exciting opportunity to deepen our children’s learning through the lockdown period.
She commented: "I'm very excited to be working with Book of Beasties and sharing my knowledge of toys and play in general! It is not easy to design well rounded play opportunities in the context of emotions or mental health and making it relevant for children. But Book of Beasties is structured in way that ensures abstract thinking becomes tangible and actionable."
The digital kit will be released in four stages with hours of lesson time in each phase; creative and physical activities and plentiful opportunities for discussion about mental health and wellness delivered in the unique story driven way Book of Beasties is known for.
Co-founder and Director of Book of Beasties, Phil Tottman, said: “Staying mentally healthy is essential at the best of times, but even more so during a crisis such as this. It is tough, especially for children to adapt to a new norm, and then re-adapt when the pandemic inevitably ends without there being some repercussions on our wellbeing.
“Whilst continuing the academic progress of our children at home, it is paramount that we ensure they are also staying mental well. So when they do remerge back into a slightly more normal reality, they do so with confidence, stability and mental toughness. And Book of Beasties has made this its sole focus to make this so.”
The first phase of Book of Beasties: Home Learning Kit 2 will be available to download from the 12th May 2020. All you will need to download is an email address.
